Things you may wish to know

The author is a single 26-year old living in Helsinki, Finland.  She lives with two kittens, both of whom are intensely adorable.  The kittens are called Piglet and Tuesday.  The author is studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Helsinki, and is building this on a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh.

The main purpose of this blog is to chronicle the various things that set the author apart from a typical Finn living in Helsinki.  The basis for this assumption is the 14 years spent in Botswana and the 5 years spent in Scotland that make the author feel like something of an outsider in Finnish society.  The purpose of this blog is not to mock Finns, the culture or the country, but to highlight the ways in which it is surprisingly easy to become estranged from your country of origin.
